The first excavations off the Camargue began in 1981 under the direction of archaeologist-diver Luc Long, chief heritage curator, researcher attached to the CNRS, member of the Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Marseille.
Forty years of underwater research have yielded more than fifty Roman wrecks, seventy post-medieval and modern wrecks, thousands of patiently collected objects that illustrate this book, whose ambition is to retrace this incredible adventure.
