Reproduction of a silver plated bronze statuette of the god Hercule, recognizable by his sledgehammer and the snake.

or Herakles is a half-god and hero known for his strength, his courage, and his many legendary feats. Hercules is the latin version of the greek hero Herakles ("to the glory of Hera").

His first name was Alcidus (the same as his grandfather, Alceus son of Perseus). He was the son of the god Zeus and Alemena, wife of the Theban general Amphitryon.

As Hercules was eight month old, Hera sent two big snakes to kill him. She failed, because Hercules, though he was just a baby, choked the snakes. He was known for his wonderful strength, that allowed him to achieve the famous twelve labors that Eurystheus, king of Mycenae and Thiryntha, gave to him.

1. He killed the lion of Nemea

2. He killed the Hydra of Lerna

3. He trapped the boar of Erymanthos

4. He ran after and trapped the doe of Cerynia

5. He killed the birds of the Stymphalos lake.

6. He cleaned the stables of Augias.

7. He tamed the bulls of the island of Kreta.

8. He took the mares of Diomedus.

9. He brought back the belt oh Hippolytus, queen of the Amazons.

10. He won over the giant Geryon and brought his beefs.

11. He picked up the golden apples of the Hesperidus's garden.

12. He chained Cerberus, the three-headed dog keeping the hells.
