Reproduction of a brass Roman legionary diploma.
This military diploma was an epigraphic document on a bronze tablet, consisting of two parts, indicating that his beneficiary had received his honorable leave (honesta missio), usually after 20 or 25 years of activity (depending on the period). For the auxiliaries, this represented a reward for the service rendered and especially gave them Roman citizenship.
