Large medallion belonging to the superb mosaic of the agricultural calendar of St-Romain-en-Gal. This presents an element of the summer: sacrifice to god Taranis.

This beautiful mosaic, unearthed in 1891 in Saint-Romain-en-Gal, on the right bank of the Rhône, immediately acquired by the Louvre museum, was deposited in the museum of National Antiquities of Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 1935. It comes from a rich suburban house in the great ancient city of Vienne, in Isère. The pavement, incomplete, but 5.66 meters long, has twenty tables (originally thirty-two) illustrating the works and festivals of the countryside. The scenes are organized around panels representing personifications of the seasons, perched on different animals. Plowing, picking fruit, crushing the grapes, pitching the jars, a sacrifice to Taranis... are all animated vignettes. Dating from the beginning of the 3rd century.

Each mosaic is unique and can be presented flat, put into the floor, or presented as a painting (an attaching system is present on the back).

Craft work, full hand made, with many natural stones as marble, granite, travertine, quartz, limestone,...
